Upcoming Sony Phones 2014: Xperia Z2 Compact To Be Announced Soon As It Passes Through FCC, Specs Include 4.5" Display, Thinner Bezels, 20.7MP Sony G Lens Rear Camera

Upcoming Sony phones 2014: Sony has just announced its newest flagship, the Xperia Z2, and it is now available for pre-order in the UK and in some parts of Europe. But as early as now, rumors of a 'smaller' edition has already gone under way.

And knowing Sony, the company does not usually downgrade specs even if the display size has been decreased, just like the Xperia Z1s in Asia, and the Z1 Compact which it launched in January.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the alleged Xperia Z2 Compact has just passed by FCC, bearing the model number SO-04F 'Altair', and bound for carrier NTT DoCoMo.

While this does not say anything about the device, we can refer to Sony's previous model numbers to make things more interesting.

The Sony Xperia Z1 for the same carrier has a model number SO-01, while the Xperia Z1 Compact is dubbed SO-02. This could mean that the soon-to-be-released Xperia Z2 and its mini counterpart may actually get SO-03 and SO-04 respectively.

Meanwhile, alleged schematics of the Xperia Z2 Compact says that it would be slightly taller and narrower than its Z1 counterpart. This means thinner side bezels, though that could also mean that Sony will be retaining the huge top and bottom bezels.

Rumored specs include a 4.5" display with 1080p resolution, the same Snapdragon 801 chipset of the Xperia Z2, and a 20.7MP G Lens.
