Doughty is among the NHL leaders in average ice time at 25:43, but will be out indefinitely after suffering an upper-body injury.  If he's out, it figures to be easier for Sedin to produce if he comes back for the Canucks. Sedin has been out with a left leg injury but returned to practice Wednesday.

"He's one of our best players, he's our captain so it's always good to get him back in," coach John Tortorella told ESPN.com. "I think it strengthens us up the middle for sure. They'll have (Friday) off, we'll see how he feels but we're pointing towards Saturday, hopefully he can play."

Even if he's not ready, the Kings have plenty of depth on defense, according to NHL.com.

"Obviously it's too bad, but we have lot of guys that can step up here and kind of play some more minutes and help the team. That's what I think," defenseman Jake Muzzin said.

Injury report, according to NHL.com:

"Doughty (upper body) is questionable, as is Kings forward Dwight King (undisclosed). ... For the Canucks, forward Mike Santorelli (shoulder surgery) and defenseman Andrew Alberts (concussion) are on injured reserve. Defenseman Christopher Tanev (hand) is out."
