Bourne Movie 5 Release Date Due On Summer Next Year! No More Matt Damon But Why? Paul Greengrass Talks; ‘We Really Should Leave It Alone’

Bourne Movie 5 is scheduled for a summer release date on 2015, however fans of the successful franchise are still hoping to see Matt Damon back as Jason Bourne again.

That includes, "Bourne" movie producer Frank Marshall, who dreams of having both Jeremy Renner and Matt Damon on the film. That would be a refreshing idea, after all the film is entitled after Jason Bourne's character right?

However, without director Paul Greengrass to helm the fifth installment of the film, it will be impossible for Damon to return to the franchise.

"I really want to do another one and I think Paul Greengrass does too," Damon admitted, "But I think it's the same question we've had after each one. If we really feel we can do it and that it will deserve to live with the other three that we did. If we can make one where we go into it feeling it can be even better than those, and it ends up being in that same ballpark, then we should do it. But If we can't, then we really should leave it alone."

The "Bourne Movie 5" topic was brought up, during the Captain Phillips press release and Greengrass explained his rather difficult decision to leave the franchise.

"I can't speak for Matt, but I agonized for a long period of time about it. In the end I felt I had given it my all in two films I'm very proud of and didn't want to make another if I didn't believe it could be as good if not better," he explained to Deadline.

In addition, Greengrass spoke about his thoughts on the problems encountered by movie franchises, saying that most of the time the studios are "obliged to make one every couple of years," regardless if a good idea exists or not. "I discovered in my heart I didn't have another one in me. I would be going through the motions and I could never do that," he explained. "The best thing was to move on, have someone else come in and make their mark on it.

He does acknowledge the role of Universal in making his career, "but you get to a place where the desire to serve the studio conflicts with your own desire to move on and stake out new ground. If you're going to have a long career in this business, you've got to try new things or you very quickly become predictable and stale."

In conclusion, the award-winning director hopes that the franchise will continue to flourish with someone else helming it. "I hope they do [continue the series] and that the franchise prospers; but I knew it wasn't going to be me," he said. "I'm completely at peace with it. I look back now and think, if I'd done my third film, and hadn't done it well, I'd have been really upset. I wouldn't be at peace with it the way I am now."

That's probably it for Matt Damon and The Bourne movie, but Don't put your hopes down just yet, even without Greengrass and Damon on the movie Universal Studios has hired Justin Lin, famous for creating Fast & Furious a blockbuster franchise about car thieves, to take on the directing responsibilities for the Bourne movie 5.

Good news for the team, as Lin could help the movie up its notch and maybe create a better sequel that could dominate the box office just like the Fast & Furious franchise.
