Madison Bumgarner will be on the hill as the Giants look for their eighth straight home victory with him on the mound. Bumgarner (2-2, 3.14 ERA) is 3-0 with a 3.11 ERA in his last seven home outings against San Diego with 47 strikeouts over 46 1/3 innings. The left-hander is seeking to avoid dropping three straight starts for the first time since Aug. 25-Sept. 5, 2012. He went the distance in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Colorado, lasting past the seventh inning for the first time, according to ESPN.com.

Bumgarner won't be a pleasant sight to San Diego shortstop Everth Cabrera, who is hitless in 16 at-bats against him with six strikeouts. Another Padres hitter who has had little success versus the southpaw is Cameron Maybin, who is 5 for 21 with eight strikeouts.Maybin's season debut Sunday was a success with two hits in a 4-2 victory at Washington that gave the Padres a four-game split. He ruptured his left biceps in spring training and missed the first 25 games, according to ESPN.com.

"It's fun being back in the bigs, being out there with all these guys who I love playing with," Maybin said.

San Diego avoided a third straight loss and quickly recovered after committing three errors and managing three hits in Saturday's 4-0 defeat.

"What a difference 24 hours makes," manager Bud Black said. "I liked the way our guys bounced back. They put yesterday behind them and we won a ballgame on the road against a good team."
