Goonies Sequel 2014: Richard Donner Says Steven Spielberg Found The Map To Goonies 2; Who Will Be Coming Back to the Goon Docks?

Goonies Sequel 2014: The Goonies director Richard Donner  confirmed that a follow-up to his 1985 adventure classic will go ahead. Richard Donner told TMZ.com that Spielberg, is on board.

Steven Spielberg co-wrote the script for the first movie and was the Goonies producer and second unit director.

'The Goonies' sequel is in the works and Steven Spielberg has written a story for the sequel. The Oscar-winning director of "Jaws," "ET" and "Schindler's List, Spielberg was the writer, producer and second unit director on the original Goonies film, which starred Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Martha Plimpton. The Goonies followed a gang of pre-teen Oregon outsiders from the Goon Docks who find a treasure map and grab some flashlights.

Rumors about "Goonies 2" have been circulating since the first movie came out. In 2012, Josh Brolin said he talked to Spielberg about appearing in a sequel. At the time he told the press "I talked to Spielberg recently about doing a sequel to it, It's been talked about though for 28 years, so I don't know if it's ever going to happen."
Spielberg came up with a new storyline, but plot details have yet to be divulged.

Donner said "Steven came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years. You don't do [a "Goonies" sequel] without him. Hopefully we're going to get this done, period. You don't do it without him. We've been trying for a long time, then he came up with another storyline and he's right on."

Donner wasn't as forthcoming when he was asked if any of the film's original cast would appear in the Goonies 2. Asked if Josh Brolin, Sean Astin or Corey Feldman would search for Goonies treasure, Donner said, "God knows, it's up to them. If they have any sense they will; if they don't, they won't."Lord Of The Rings star Sean Astin "They'll do it for sure - no question about it. I think they would like to do it with all of us, and maybe they will, but they're trying to crack the code, you know?"

The 1985 film was written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus and was listed as one of the top box office hits of that year. It looks like those rumors are beginning to pan out. Richard Donner, who directed the original Goonies, recently said he wants to reunite Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Data and Mouth for Goonies 2. The Goonies' sequel will find the stars of the first film, now with children of their own, reuniting 20 years later to solve a new mystery.

There's no word yet on when The Goonies 2 is expected to start filming.
