How I Met Your Mother Spinoff Casting: Meg Ryan joined the cast of CBS' comedy pilot "How I Met Your Dad." The "Sleepless in Seattle" actress will play "Future Sally," the  narrator and older version of Greta Gerwig's character in the "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off pilot. 

Meg Ryan's role will mirror that of Bob Saget from the original CBS series. Saget never actually appeared on HIMYM, but played the voice of "Future Ted" present Ted was played by Josh Radnor. Greta Gerwig has already been tapped to star in the project as Sally,

Meg Ryan will be the voice of the future Sally, who is described as the new Ted. Meg Ryan has been cast as the narrator for CBS' How I Met Your Dad.
Meg Ryan will mouth the unseen vocal role in the How I Met Your Dad pilot as "future Sally." Sally will b played Greta Gerwig during the series. In How I Met Your Mom, Bob Saget supplied the voice for future Ted. Saget, was also never seen.

Meg Ryan is America's sweetheart, one of the first rom-com movie stars. Her breakout role came in 1989 when she played another Sally against Billy Crystal's Harry in the hit "When Harry Met Sally." Ryan went on to star in "Sleepless in Seattle," "In the Cut," and first came to TV in Showtime's "Web Therapy."

How I Met Your Dad will be the first time Ryan has been on a major prime-time TV series as a regular.

CBS and studio 20th Century Fox TV had no comment.

The co-creators of How I Met Your Mom, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, are writing the pilot with Emily Spivey. They promise that How I Met Your Dad is just like How I met Your Mother, except from the female point of view. The spinoff will center on a group of friends living in New York and follow the main character, Sally, and her journey to meeting her future husband.  "Frances Ha" star Greta Gerwig is Sally. Sally is the new Ted, but unlike Ted (Josh Radnor), Sally is already married when we first meet her in the pilot.

The Wrap reported that the spinoff will not be directed by "How I Met Your Mother" director Pam Fryman.

Confirmed cast members of the "How I Met Your Mother" spin off include Greta Gerwig, Drew Tarver, Nick D'Agosto and Andrew Santino.

Ryan had any major film or TV roles in six years. She has been focusing more on her 9-year-old daughter, Daisy. Ryan is currently linked to rock musician John Mellencamp.

According to a CBS press release, Sally is described as a "female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she's going in life. She has just figured out that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year, and will find a solid circle of support in her friends and family."
