‘Fantastic Four’ Reboot Cast Rumors: Mole Man Played By Former 'Incredible Hulk' Villain Tim Blake Nelson! He Joins The Franchise Because 'The Script Has Real Heart'

The Fantastic Four reboot has now confirmed two villains-Dr.Doom and now the Mole Man. Although it might take a while before we see him, the character already shows the direction that the new Fantastic Four will take.

The first report on Nelson's involvement with the film was broken by The Hollywood Reporter. They share:

"Tim Blake Nelson is in final negotiations to join the cast of 20th Century Fox's reboot of 'The Fantastic Four.'"

THR even shares some valuable plot spoilers and the implication that they are indeed planning a sequel this early for the Fantastic franchise. More from THR:

"Sources say the Mole Man will not appear in this movie but Elder's appearance does set up the character to be the villain in future installments of the franchiseThe trade describes the film's Elder as 'an eccentric and socially awkward scientist."'

The Mole Man, despite his stature, is actually quite formidable. Screenrant explains: "For those unfamiliar with the comics, Harvey Elder is better known as Mole a nuclear engineer and explorer who was shunned by the rest of society due to his diminutive, homely appearance and inability to get along with others. This eventually drove him underground, where he became the leader of a subterranean hive of creatures called the Moloids."

A leader of an entire underground race with the scientific genius almost to the level of Reed Richards, Mole Man would be a worthy cinematic challenge.

But the reboot is not all about the action. Tim Blake Nelson himself said to Collider: "I absolutely loved working on Hulk and feel extremely blessed that Marvel, Fox, and especially (Fantastic Four director) Josh Trank and his team have invited me back into the universe. The script is excellent. It has real heart, and it shows a true understanding of what it is to be a burgeoning adult geeked out to the margins."

This is familiar territory for Nelson, who genuinely sympathizes with his characters. He also has high praises for the script:  "Without going into detail, the script has as much soul as it does action, and it has a lot of action. We're all going to have blast making it."

"Fantastic Four" will have its yet untitled reboot on June 19, 2015.
