NBA MVP 2014: Kevin Durant Dethrones LeBron! KD Leads League In Scoring, Overcame Teammates' Injuries To Keep Thunder In Contention!

The NBA Most Valuable Player for the 2013-14 Regular Season will be Kevin Durant. There won't be any controversy and very little chance of debate.  Even LeBron James has conceded.

The King, who has won the award four times in the last five years, has admitted that Durant deserves the award. From The Miami Herald: "I think K.D. has had one heck of a season, and if he was rewarded with the MVP, it would be great. It would be awesome for him, for his family. It would be a great thing for him. He has played MVP-type basketball."

James also said Durant has been "the most consistent basketball player as far as MVP this year. He has put up some great numbers."

ESPN cites its sources when it reported:

"Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant is expected to be named league MVP early next week, according to sources close to the situation.

It had been widely anticipated throughout the league that Durant would earn the award for the first time in his career. The most likely scenario, sources said, is a Tuesday news conference to announce Durant's win, followed by a pregame ceremony before Oklahoma City's home game Wednesday night in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs."

There were a lot candidates early in the season, but the duel between James and Durant was the only one that lasted the entire season. Durant had a record breaking performance in the whole month of January, when the vote swayed in his favor.

SI.com affirms the decision: "Save for a brief stretch at the end of February, Durant has been consistently dominant. He led the NBA in scoring (career best 31.9 points with one game to play) and surpassed Michael Jordan's record for consecutive 25-point games (41). He is as complete as he has been at any point in his career and gets bonus points for putting OKC on his back during Russell Westbrooks extended absence."

Unlike Miami's big Three, the Thunder relies more on their duo of Durant and Westbrook. When Westbrook went down, critics thought that Durant cannot carry them on his own. Instead, KD unleashed a phenomenal performance that had OKC standing at the top of the standings. In contrast, LeBron did not handle as much adversity and the East is not as competitive. Truly, this is Durant's season!
