Ariel Winter, who plays Alex on "Modern Family," will continue to live with her adult sister after an agreement was reached in a long-running guardianship dispute.

The decision in Ariel Winter's family case comes after a long a court battle between the 16-year-old "Modern Family" actress and her mother, Chrisoula "Crystal" Workman. Chrisoula Workman had been accused of physically and emotionally abusing Ariel Winter. Workman maintains she did not abuse her daughter.

Chrisoula Workman was looking to have Gray's petition to be appointed Winter's guardian until she reaches the age 18 rejected.

Winter's mother agreed to cease her guardianship agreement objections if Ariel Winter would watch a video montage of family photos. The judge agreed and the case was closed.

Winter's father will retain control over her finances. He will have to make reports to the court. The judge on the case will retain jurisdiction until Ariel Winter turns 18.

Winter has been living with Gray since 2012. Temporary guardianship had been established while allegations that Workman was subjecting her daughter to physical and emotional abuse were being investigated.

Previously, a judge said an initial report by child protective services found evidence of emotional abuse. The court said claims of physical abuse were deemed inconclusive. Subsequent reports have not been described in court.

On Monday Workman said "I have never abused my daughter."

Gray and Workman issued a joint statement saying, "The family has moved beyond the conflict."

Actor Jimmy Workman, who is Ariel's brother and who played Pugsley Addams in "The Addams Family" films, requested that the courtroom be closed while the video montage was played. Murphy refused. Jimmy Workman excused himself from the courtroom during the montage. It is reported that he cried  when Gray was formally granted guardianship of Ariel Winter.

Guardianship cases in California are public record. Gray's attorneys requested the case and its proceedings be sealed, but the judge refused.

Ariel Winter has been acting since she was 7 years old. Winter plays Alex Dunphy on "Modern Family." She also appeared in movies like "Incision" and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang."
