'Spring Breakers' the hit movie from Harmony Korine which starred Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco among others is about to get a sequel! The new film will debut at Cannes.

Wild Bunch, the Paris based production company behind the movie, has confirmed the sequel. The film's title will be "Spring Breakers: The Second Coming" and it is described as "a sequel of sorts" to last year's Harmony Korine film that was a mild hit but appealed to a cult following.

It will be a part of Wild Bunch's Cannes line up. While "Spring Breakers" mostly focused on the debauchery of the occasion, "The Second Coming" will have a religious undertone-but of course, it is still spring break!

Wild Bunch co-founder Vincent Maraval told ScreenDaily.com:  "It's not a direct sequel, although there are allusions to some of the characters in the original." Swedish director Jonas Akerlund whose credits include some of Lady Gaga's most elaborate music videos will be tapped to helm the film. The script was written by no less than Irvine Welsh, who also wrote the 90s classic "Trainspotting" and last year's James McAvoy starrer, "Filth."

From Time.com: "The first Spring Breakers film pushed a lot of buttons when it hit boxes office in 2013. Audiences debated whether the film creepily indulged the male gaze or fought back against it with atypical female characters. The sequel seems committed to controversial topics, as the likely bikini-clad ladies will face off against a "militant Christian sect that attempts to convert them."

There are still no news about the casting except that the original cast of Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, James Franco, Rachel Korine and Ashley Benson will not return. It is possible that there will be allusions, or maybe even a cameo.

There were already religious references even in the first movie since Selena Gomez's character, aptly named "Faith" came from an evangelical background. The first movie was a tale of moral descent as the girls get sucked further and further into Alien's web. The sequel will also have bikini clad girls, but instead of gangsters, it's Christian fanatics (which may be even worse).

All that's missing is the Britney Spears sing-along.
