"Salem," the supernatural series on WGN, scared up a lot of viewers in its opening. That didn't go unnoticed by the Witches' Council at WGN.

WGN renewed "Salem" was picked up for a second season, it was announced by Matt Cherniss, President and General Manager, WGN America and Tribune Studios.

WGN America renewed the witch series Salem for a second season after only three episodes. The second season, like the first, will have a run of 13 lucky episodes.

Salem, which tells the story of the Salem Witch Trials as if real witches were magically influencing them. Only three episodes have been broadcast, but they were enough to convince WGN America that "Salem" was casting an effective spell on viewers. The fourth entry in this 10-episode first season airs at 10 p.m. Sunday, May 11. The series pulled in over 3.4 million total viewers.

Salem co-stars Janet Montgomery, Shane West, Seth Gabel and others, is based in Salem's colonial-era witch trials, but takes leaps into dark fantasy. Salem was co-created and written by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon. The series is produced by Fox 21. Salem stars Janet Montgomery, Shane West and Seth Gabel.

Production on Salem is set for later this year. It will debut in 2015.
