Whitney Houston Biopic News: Lifetime Whitney Houston Movie Will Not Feature Her Voice; Whitney Houston’s Mother Strikes At Lifetime

Whitney Houston Biopic News: Lifetime's upcoming movie about the life of Whitney Houston is generating controversy from the late singer's family. The new Whitney Houston biopic will feature the music of the late R&B icon, but will not feature Houston's voice.

Whitney Houston's music is owned by her family and  according to reports, they are not happy with the project. According to Lifetime, the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic will focus on her relationship with her ex-husband Bobby Brown.

Lifetime announced that they are still in talks about the terms of music rights and clearances. Whitney's vocals will be redone by R&B singer Deborah Cox.

In a statement that was issued to Entertainment Tonight, Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston's mother, said "No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby. In the two years since Whitney's death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie about her done by folks who didn't know her."

Pat Houston, who was Whitney's sister-in-law and former manager said "Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie and if she were here today, this would not be happening."

Angela Basset, who worked with Whitney Houston in the 1995 film, Waiting To Exhale, is set to make her directorial debut with "Whitney."

About a month ago, Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown took to Twitter to blast Angela Bassett on her decision not to cast Bobbi as her mother in an upcoming Lifetime Channel Whitney Houston biographical movie. Lifetime recently got blasted in the press for its Aaliyah biopic.

Basset decided to keep Houston's daughter out of the picture. She told Entertainment Weekly "I did not think about casting her. And probably for a number of reasons, you know. One being that she's not an actress. I know she's acted here and there. I know she's been on their family's reality show, but she's not an actress and acting is a craft."
