Chicago Bulls News: Rose Will Finally Have A Scoring Partner, But Who Will It Be?

For Windy City fans, this may be one of the better Chicago Bulls news this off-season.

Aside from the fact that 2011 MVP Derrick Rose will begin the season once more, hopefully without getting injured again, the Bulls are expecting a scoring side-kick for him, and he was not a product of the team's free agency plans.

Instead, the Bulls management did everything it can to push its draft pick to 11th in the first round, where the team picked Creighton star Doug McDermott.

Fresh from a 26.7 point average per game during his senior year at Creighton last year, McDermott is considered a scoring specialist who can post, score from midrange, and even take it strong to the hoop.

However, his biggest strength is his 3-point shooting touch, where he averaged 44 percent from deep in his entire three years in Creighton. He also maintained a scoring average of at least 22 points a game during those three years.

Fortunately, his prowess behind the arc translated to the Summer League in Vegas last month where he averaged 18 points per game, including a 31-point explosion with just 12 shots.

In a team where Rose is the primary offensive threat and facilitator, McDermott will certainly take a portion of the former MVP's scoring load with him waiting in the wings for catch-and-shoot threes. And because the primary focus of the defense will be Rose, expect McDermott to get a lot of open looks.

The only problem now for 'McBuckets' is which position would he play. He is not that athletic nor he is good defensive to be on the small forward, while he is short and certainly not fit to bang bodies with other NBA bigs in the power forward position.

Let's see how coach Tom Thibodeau will make use of the 22-year-old's scoring gifts.
