Alanis Morissette Breastfeeding Pics on Instagram Are Not Ironic; Alanis Morisette Joins Gwen Stefani, Natalia Vodianova and Gisele Bundchen in Support of World Breastfeeding Week

Alanis Morissette took to Instragram to join singer Gwen Stefani and supermodels Natalia Vodianova and Gisele Bundchen in Support of World Breastfeeding Week.

The "You Oughta Know" singer posted a throwback picture of herself breastfeeding son Ever on Instagram to support World Breastfeeding Week.

Alanis Morisette captioned the Instagram breastfeeding throwback shot "family on tour ;) europe 2012 #worldbreastfeedingweek #isupportyou @msjamielynne #everlovedhischakraglasses @jaygordonmdfaap"

The throwback Instagram picture is from 2012. At the time Morissette took the photo she was very vocal about her pro-breastfeeding stance. On an appearance on Good Morning America that year, Alanis she said would breastfeed her son until he was five or six years old if he needed it. Ever is now three years old. Alanis is married to rapper Mario "Souleye" Treadway.

When Bethenny Frankel asked Morissette how long she planned to breastfeed her son on Frankel's talk show, Alanis said "until he's finished. I think one of the misperceptions about breastfeeding when they get a little bit older is the thought that it's still as often as it is when women do it in the first six months. It's not every two hours. ... It is about the mom and the child, too. It's a mutual benefit."

"Some kids naturally stop at two, some stop at a couple of years later, it's up to the child. I will stop when he says it's time to stop," she said. "For me, I protect his safety and his well-being and his attachment. That stage of development is a very important stage."

Mayim Bialik and Alicia Silverstone also breastfed their children past the first year of life.

World Breastfeeding Week runs from August 1st through August 7th.
