Sony Xperia Z2 Compact Release Date: Rumored Specs Of ‘Mini-Me’ Version Incl. 5” Display, Dual-Core Snapdragon Processor, 2 GB RAM; Will It Bring Something New On The Table?

Sony Xperia Z2 compact release date: Sony has finally released its flagship model, the Xperia Z2 last August. Reviews are currently being flung all over the place about its specs and features.

TechRadar recently reviewed it, saying, “The Xperia Z2 is an excellent smartphone with all the components you'd expect from a flagship device, providing a pleasing user experience.” Still, not many are thrilled about this handset. But to keep the ball rolling the Japanese manufacturer has already finished cooking another smartphone in the kitchen: the Xperia A2, better known as the Sony Xperia Z2 Compact.

Months after the release of its big brother, is the compact version ready to compete in the market? Here is a spec report courtesy of BREATHEcast.

With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor under the hood, the Z2 Compact is not far from its predecessor (Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400). Meanwhile, its RAM is said to be 2 GB, only 1 GB lower than the Z2.

Because it is Z2’s “mini-me” version, the Z2 will have a smaller screen size with a smaller body. The surprise and a bit of a disappointment is the decrease of resolution. The rumored 5-inch Z2 Compact will have a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. This is considerably lower than the Z2’s 1920 x 1080 touchscreen interface.

In terms of specs, Sony’s Z2 Compact is at par with other mini versions in the market. In fact, it can be seen as a direct competitor against the already released HTC One Mini 2 and upcoming the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini. There is still no definite release date for the Galaxy S5 Mini.

Because most flagship smartphones are getting bigger and bigger, it is no wonder that all of them will have a “mini-me.” The arrival of the mini versions usually come a year after the release of the primary model. But with Sony, the distance between the releases is only around six months. With the recent release of the Z2, the compact is bound to be out soon.
