‘Captain America 3' Is Chris Evans' Last? 'The Winter Soldier' Takes The Shield From The Star Spangled Hero? Sequel Will Feature 'A Major Twist!'

Marvel Studios has big plans for the Captain America franchise-even if they have a new star. Chris Evans may take on his last tour of duty with the red and blue. Will former sidekick Bucky aka the Winter Soldier turn a new leaf and grab the shield?

It won't be a decision entirely out of left field. The comic books have actually portrayed the Winter Soldier as Captain America and recently, even Falcon has wielded the shield. The Russo Brothers really have their options open at this point.

Perhaps more than "Iron Man" who became synonymous with Robert Downey Jr, Captain America has more potential to become "evergreen like James Bond." While Chris Evans has done a great job as Cap, he's hardly irreplaceable in the same way Downey is as Tony Stark.

The Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony talked to Yahoo Movies and gave some minute but interesting details on their vision for the next full feature.

The story will take place "a couple of years" from the events of the Captain America 2, and it remains to be seen how the Winter Soldier will develop since he is now free from Hydra control. Or is he?

The Russo's mention that the political angle is still in play:

Anthony: "The character was invented for an explicitly political purpose. So it's hard to get away from that nature."

It's also a vital point that Captain America doesn't become another disillusioned, compromising antihero. As Joe would say, "his morality is part of his superpower."

Yahoo Movies elaborates: "The Russo brothers promise that they're 'bringing some new elements to the table that will give us a twist on Winter Soldier.' Does this mean that Steve Rogers will pass the Captain America shield to Bucky Barnes (a.k.a. the Winter Soldier) or Sam Wilson (a.k.a. the Falcon), both of whom have donned the stars-and-stripes in the comics? With actor Chris Evans shifting his focus to directing, and Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie already in place as the Winter Soldier and the Falcon respectively, the next film could allow a new hero to step in."

The Russos did a fine job in introducing the two new heroes-will they also be as good with farewells? Evans is only signed for "Cap 3" and  "Avengers 2 and 3" while Sebastian Stan has twice that number under contract. You know he'll stick around, but is he going to become Captain America, or is that reserved for someone else?
