Female Spider-Man Spinoff To Be Released In 2017; Black Cat To Possibly Lead Film Because Of Cameo In The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

A female Spider-Man spinoff is confirmed to be one of Sony's biggest plans for 2017 as per Deadline. However, it is yet unknown as to who will lead the show. Black Cat, Silver Sable, Stunner, Firestar, and Spider-Woman are reportedly being eyed for the film's lead character.

Some fans are speculating whether Black Cat will nab the spot for she was last seen in the 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' as Harry Osborn's assistant.

Sony has reportedly approached Lisa Joy Nolan to write the screenplay. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, on the other hand, will reportedly produce the upcoming female Spider-Man spinoff.

"I hope we do it sooner rather than later. But we find ourselves in the very strange position of managing more franchises than most people have -- which is a very, very good thing and we don't take for granted, but is a challenging thing," told Marvel boss Kevin Feige to Comic Book Resource.

Sony appears to be determined than ever to revamp the array of Spider-Man films. Prior to the 2018 release of the 'Amazing Spider-Man 3,' Drew Goddard's 'Sinister Six' will be opening in 2016.

'Sinister Six' will be focusing on some of Spider-Man's known villains such as Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Green Goblin, and Rhino.
