Two More ‘LEGO’ Movies Confirmed To Come Out In 2018 And 2019; ‘Lego Movie 2’ Plot To Welcome More ‘Cool Female’ Characters In 2017
Warner Brothers has officially confirmed that two more 'LEGO' movies will come out respectively on May 25, 2018 and May 24, 2019. Meanwhile, the 'Lego Movie 2' plot promises to welcome more female characters on board.
Apart from the 'Lego Movie 2' which is set to come out on May 26, 2017, the 'LEGO' spinoff 'Ninjago' is also in the pipeline. The spinoff will be released on September 23, 2016.
Many were stunned when the February-released 'Lego Movie' raked $468 million at the global box office as it initially had a budget of $60 million. The combined talents of writer and director Phil Lord and Chris Miller likewise gave the movie a rare 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
As per Warner Brothers, the upcoming 'LEGO' movies will contribute to the studio's expansion plans between 2014 and 2020. Nine untitled DC projects as well as two "WB Event Films" are expected to come out in a span of six years. Some speculate that one of the "WB Event Films" is JK Rowling's penned 'Harry Potter' spinoff entitled 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.'
Meanwhile, 'Lego Movie 2' is being directed by Chris McKay. Michelle Morgan and Jared Stern have lent their talent for the script.
In a previous interview with Daily Mail, McKay promised that the upcoming film will have more empowered female characters as they do not want to continuously ask themselves if they're merely a "bunch of white guys" creating the film from their own "myopic point of view."
"We were constantly responding to that question and that helped us make Wyldstyle a better character and Unikitty a more interesting character. I think it's forcing us to look at how we make a sequel and turn that into something that's more powerful and special," he said.
Several fans have also given their two cents regarding the female characters they would want to see in the film such as the brides from Monster Fighters, CM's cheerleader, and even the Simpsons.
