Upcoming Motorola Phones 2014: Phone Maker's Best-Selling Phone Will Finally Get A Rightful Heir To The Midrange Throne, Gets 5" Display, 8MP Primary Camera

Aside from the Moto G 4G version and the lower midrange Moto E, there are not many upcoming Motorola phones for 2014. However, that may change as a new report claims that the upcoming Motorola Moto G's successor is already under development.

The unnamed Motorola smartphone is rumored to finally break 5-inch display barrier, making it look like the Android flagships we have today.

The specs of the Moto G successor were leaked when the phone was allegedly scored by GFX Benchmark, which has a reputation of testing smartphones prior to their respective release dates.

Hiding under the model number XT1063, the Android-powered smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, 1GB of RAM, quad-core CPU clocked at 1.2GHz, Adreno 305 and 8GB of built-in memory.

The benchmark also revealed that while the display size has been increased to 5 inches, it still retains the HD (1280 x 720) resolution of its predecessor.

Meanwhile, the camera has been revamped from 5MP to 8MP, and there will now be a 2MP front shooter to handle selfies and video calls.

The Moto G successor is certainly shaping up to be a decent midranger with a very affordable price tag. If Motorola decides to throw some new features such as a microSD card slot, LTE connectivity and NFC support, the deal could be made even sweeter.

Next month a number of Android flagships would be announced, headlined by the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Of course there would be midrangers, but we doubt they would make the same impact as the Samsung phablet. If Motorola wants its new midranger to be noticed, it should release it as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the Moto G successor could be unveiled at the same month the Moto G was released last year, just before the holiday season.
