Is Kevin Love The Big Man The Cavaliers Need To Help LeBron James Bring A Title To Cleveland?

So the writing on the wall has been written. Kevin Love is going to Cleveland in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a first round pick. Why was everyone so involved with this trade? Why did LeBron James want this trade so much?

For all intents and purposes, this trade was already planned even before LeBron James decided to transfer to Cleveland. This was a statement endorsed by Grantland's Bill Simmons among others. He cited it in his podcast, BS Report stating that in LeBron's comeback 'essay' he did not mention Andrew Wiggins nor Anthony Bennett. Simmons reiterates that it was not an accident or a mistake.

An excerpt from LeBron's essay from SI.com:

"But I get a thrill out of bringing a group together and helping them reach a place they didn't know they could go. I see myself as a mentor now and I'm excited to lead some of these talented young guys. I think I can help Kyrie Irving become one of the best point guards in our league. I think I can help elevate Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters. And I can't wait to reunite with Anderson Varejao, one of my favorite teammates."

LeBron James will finally get his wish to bring Kevin Love, but will that be enough to win a championship? Was all the hype regarding their union worth it?

Here are some facts about Kevin Love. (stats cited from Basketball Reference)

Love averaged 26. 1 points and 12. 5 rebounds last year-the only player to finish Top 5 in both categories.  Love also averaged 4.4 assists which is high for his position. He also had 65 double-doubles last season, no. 1 in the NBA.

Speaking of double-doubles, Love has averaged double digits in points and rebounds his entire career except his rookie season but he was close (11 points, 9.1 rebounds). Love has 6 seasons under his belt and he's only 25 years old. He has not reached the playoffs his entire career but that's probably going to change.

In terms of Players Efficiency Rank (from a system developed by John Hollinger), Kevin Love is ranked third in the NBA behind only Kevin Durant and LeBron James. Thus, two of the three most efficient players in the league will play together.

Love is a power forward who has a great touch from the three point line. He is also a better rebounder than Chris Bosh, the King's big man sidekick in Miami. He is probably the best passing big man in the league.

Most analysts and coaches consider him as the best power forward in the NBA because of his versatility. He would be a great complement to LeBron James because of his skill in passing from the post. He can also feed off the rebounds that he gets. But the wild card for Kevin Love is his uncanny three point shooting. Love can draw the bigger defenders outside the paint leaving the lane open for James and Kyrie Irving. A pick and roll set between Love and James or Irving would be a nightmare to defend.

And the nightmare is now real for the 29 other teams in the NBA!
