2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions: Ray Allen Decision Pre-empted By Conflicting Reports! NBA All-Time Best Shooter Calls Decision In September!

The 2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions are down to the fringes. It seems like Ray Allen is still very much a marked man. Not bad for a 39-year old! Two major websites get the fans in a whirl when they publish two conflicting reports on the legendary shooter.

When LeBron James went to Cleveland and brought some of his gunslinging sidekicks (Mike Miller and James Jones) with him, the assumption was made that Allen would be next. But Allen eventually refuted that. He claims he and LeBron never talked about the topic.

Now recent reports are in conflict over the fate of the former Miami Heat shooting guard.

The report from USA Today:

Ray Allen still might return for a 19th season in the NBA. He also might retire. But he has not officially made a decision yet, according to agent Jim Tanner. ...

"As Ray has previously stated, he is taking this time to make a decision whether or not he will play next season.Any reports otherwise are false."

He sounds exasperated. Perhaps this had something to do with it, From ESPN:

Ray Allen has told people close to him that he will play in the NBA next season instead of retiring, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

While the Cleveland Cavaliers are the frontrunner for Allen, the source said the 10-time All-Star has not completely decided where he will play. Cleveland is the favorite due to the return of LeBron James, with whom Allen played with on the Miami Heat the past two seasons. ...

At 39 years old, Allen's goal is to win a third NBA championship so he will only consider playing for title contenders. It is not clear what other clubs are on Allen's radar, but nearly every contender would be interested in adding him to its roster.

Of course, Allen can take his time and he has nothing to prove. Whatever his choice, his legacy is safe.
