Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 VS. Samsung Galaxy S5: Specs of Samsung smartphones vary depending on their line, but the Galaxy range has always been deemed the pre-eminent and most prestigious line for Samsung devices. Today, we focus in on two devices – the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 Review

Design and specifications: The Samsung Galaxy S5 sports a few design changes from its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S4. It has a new rounded polycarbonate body, metal trimmed edges and a removable rear cover. Unlike previous models, however, the rear cover is more solid and has higher quality plastic making the back of the phone feel a lot more structured, notes Streetwise Tech. The new device weighs in at 145 grams – a minor 15 gram increase from the Samsung Galaxy S4 and comes at 142 x 72.5 mm (5.6 inches and 2.85 inches), much bigger than the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Display and battery life: The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 432 ppi Super AMOLED screen, a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and a powerful Li-ion 2800 mAh removable battery. The S5 is expected to be succeeded by a Samsung Galaxy S6, but there has been no solid reports about such device.

Camera and price: Stretwise Tech noted that the front and rear camera of the Samsung Galaxy S5 has received upgrades this year and the new Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 16 megapixel rear camera plus a 2.1 megapixel front camera. A quick look at Amazon shows the price of a Samsung Galaxy S5 hovering at around $588.99.

SAMSUNG GALAXY S DUOS 2 REVIEW

The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 was announced in November but didn’t get as much fanfare as typical Galaxy line of products receive, primarily because of its low specifications.

The handset, however, is suitable for users in search of a budget-friendly device with dual SIM capabilities.

Design and specifications: The design of the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 is a hybrid between a Samsung Galaxy S2 and a Samsung Galaxy S3. Dimensions of the device are at 121.5 x 63.1 x 10.6 mm and weights below 20 grams. The smartphone is far from the breathtaking when it comes to specificaitons, but the Dual Core 1.2GHz processor is pretty decent when it comes to app compatibility.

Display and sound: The capacitive TFT touchscreen of S Duos 2 is not as good as the one featured on the Galaxy S3, Streetwise Tech noted, but it’s color density and brightness are workable. The handset has a 222 ppi pixel density on its 4-inch 480 x 800 pixel display, which makes the Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 a better choice than the much older S2.

Battery life: The Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 has a small Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery and delivers an overall talk time of 8 hours on 3G network and 280 hours in standby mode.If used extensively, the device may last for as little as 3 hours.

Camera: The S Duos 2 has a 5MP camera with a 2592 x 1944 pixel picture capabilities. It allows you to capture videos at 720p and 30 FPS. The front camera is VGA and doesn’t stand out much when it comes to quality but gives Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2 video conferencing capabilities.

Price and verdict: The Duos 2 is perfect for people with contracts to multiple mobile networks and it’s a selling point with the Dual SIM capability. The smartphone is a fusion of the S2 and S3 models offered by Samsung. A quick look at Amazon shows the device selling for $137.
