Nexus 6 Motorola Release Date: Codenamed 'Shamu' Specs Leak, Gets High-End Snapdragon 801

It is already the time of the year where we get rumors and leaks about Google's upcoming Nexus devices. The Nexus 6 Motorola release date may not be that popular in the rumor mill these days, but there are still unconfirmed reports that the smartphone may be launched sooner rather than later.

In case the rumors are true, this will be the first time that Google has tapped Motorola to work on a Nexus smartphone. Previous makers include HTC, Samsung and LG. It only goes to show that the search giant now recognizes Motorola as a profitable smartphone maker, thanks to its previous handsets which include the Moto X, Moto G, and the Moto E. 

According to a report by GSM Arena, the upcoming Motorola phone codenamed 'Shamu' may probably be the next generation Nexus 6 smartphone. 

The smartphone has reportedly appeared on benchmark GFXBench. Unfortunately, specs sheet for the device has not been released yet. The only thing that we can get from GFXBench is that the Motorola Shamu managed to score 11.5fps for a particular test. 

Interestingly, all other Android flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, and the Sony Xperia Z2 all scored in the same 11fps vicinity, which could mean that the Nexus 6 Motorola would be powered by a Snapdragon 801. 

In addition, the pretty high-end processor would most likely be paired with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) screen instead of QHD or 2K (2560 x 1440). In the results released by GFX Bench, the LG G3 faired poorly in the test managing only 7fps at best, which is probably due to its ultra high resolution screen. 

So right now, what we can assume is that the Motorola Shamu is a high-end smartphone that will aim to take on the current flagships in the market. But would it be the Nexus 6? We cannot clearly say, but as a former part of Google, Motorola could have been assigned to work on the Nexus smartphone even before it was bought by Lenovo earlier this year.
