Xiaomi Mi4 Release Date: Specs Of Upcoming Android Handset May Finally Be Unveiled At A Launch End Of This Year Say Company Exec Hugo Barra

Xiaomi Mi4 release date: Specs of the upcoming Android handset by the “Apple of China,” Xiaomi, may finally go beyond speculations and into visible reality because it will be unveiled at the end of this year, Xiaomi vice president of international Hugo Barra confirmed.

Barrra confirmed the timeline of release while replying to comments to a BGR India report. He noted that both devices are at present undergoing certification.

The mobile exec noted that the Redmi 1S smartphone, which is part of the India launch last month, will also be available for purchase within the next few weeks. He expects to make an announcement on the matter by the end of this week, Medianama reports.

Based on his response, the Redmi Note phablet may also be available in the market before Diwali. Medianama notes that the Xiaomi Redmi 1S is priced at RS 6,999 (USD 114) and the Redmi Note is being sold for RS 9,999 (USD 164). The company is in the midst of finalizing some logistical details.

According to reports, the company has been criticized for being unable to ensure sufficient stocks of its flagship Mi3 handset available to Flipkart. The e-commerce giant is conducting flash sales on behalf of the tech giant and has sold an estimated 40,000 units to date. It’s latest flash sale, where it made 20,000 units available, was sold out in 2.4 seconds.

The Xiaomi executive has also noted in his response to the comments that the Redmi Note model scheduled for launch in India will be the 3G version. He said that the 4G variant has been built specifically for China’s TDD-LTE network.

“Hi Atharva, the Redmi Note we’re initially launching in India is the 3G version. The 4G model that was just announced yesterday is the version built for China’s TDD-LTE network. We’re planning a 4G model that works across both FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE networks by the end of this year.”

Aside from all the remarks on mobile products, Barra also mentioned that the company has plans to launch the Mi TV 2 in India. He said that Xiaomi is currently on the lookout for content partners and announcements will be made once a more solid plan is in place.
