Upcoming Samsung Phones 2014: The Galaxy Alpha Is Now Official, Boasts Super Thin Body, Metal Frame, iPhone 6-Killer Features

Earlier today, the Korean tech giant has finally made one of its upcoming Samsung phones for 2014 official, none other than the Galaxy Alpha.

Rumored for the past several weeks, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is said to rival the upcoming iPhone 6 when it makes its debut by mid-September.

And so because this smartphone is primarily an anti-iPhone, it does enough to keep the market pre-occupied before the Apple smartphone makes its landfall.

In the report by GSM Arena, the Android-powered device will cost around $690 (€515) or about RUB 25,000 in Russia where it may initially be available.

While the pricing is certainly on the steep side, the Russian market tends to get more expensive pricing especially for mobile phones so we expect the price tag to be much lower in other markets where the Galaxy Alpha will be available.

So is this new Samsung phone worth a look?

In the report, the Galaxy Alpha boasts some decent specs on the surface, with its 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution. However, it gets more interesting when you look at the phone's processor.

The upcoming iPhone 6 rival packs an Exynos 5 Octa chipset composed of four Cortex-A15 cores and four Cortex-A7 cores for superior performance. Also on board is a 2GB RAM and a 32GB of built-in memory, though that is not expandable via a microSD card slot.

At the back is a 12MP primary camera while a 2MP graces the front. Like previously reported, the Galaxy Alpha will come with the features from the Galaxy S5 which include a heart-rate monitor and fingerprint scanner.

Design-wise, this could arguably be the most gorgeous smartphone Samsung has ever built, especially with its metal frame and much thinner body. But only time will tell if this Android-running device can stand a chance against the juggernaut that is the iPhone 6.
