Samsung Gear Solo Release Date, Pictures, Specs, And News: New Smartwatch Will Not Need Phone To Make Calls, To Be Released Alongside Galaxy Note 4 At IFA 2014 Next Month[PHOTO]

The Samsung Gear Solo smartwatch has a release date alongside the Galaxy Note 4.

According to Yonhap News, Samsung will be launching the "Gear Solo" in Berlin next month.

SamMobile, a Samsung firmware tracking and rumors website, also noted that the Korean tech giant will be releasing "multiple wearable devices" along side the Galaxy Note 4 in the fall.

The Galaxy Note 4 will be launched at a Samsung Unpacked event release date September 3, according to rumors.

According to the Yonhap report, the "Gear Solo" is expected to have its own universal subscriber identity module (USIM) card, meaning that it does not need to be connected to a phone to make calls and texts.

The "Gear Solo" is almost certainly going to run Tizen, Samsung's own mobile OS, and will be using 3G networks rather than LTE.

The "Gear Solo" will be the sixth Samsung smartwatch to be produced.

On the other hand, their main rival, Apple, has yet to release even a single "wearable" tech yet.

The Samsung Gear Solo would join the existing Tinzen-powered Samsung wearables: Samsung Galaxy Gear, Samsung Gear 2, Samsung Gear 2 Fit and Samsung Gear 2 Neo and the Android Wear powered Samsung Gear Live. It's not clear if the Samsung Gear Solo would be powered by Tizen or Android Wear. The expanded functionality off a "universal subscriber identity module card" (USIM) may be more compatible with the Tizen operating system as opposed to the voice control and notification centered Android Wear platform.

The Samsung Gear Solo specs are unknown, but the device may be similar to the Samsung Gear Live: 1.63-inch AMOLED display, waterproofing, "Ok Google" voice commands, built-in heart rate monitor, pedometer, 512 MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory with the option to interchange watch bands.

Another unknown feauter is the battery life which will be important if the device is to function as a smartphone replacement. Cellular data requires a lot more power than Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and could be a serious drain on the battery.

The Samsung Gear Solo release date will be September 3.
