Yang Hyun Suk, "Broadcasting Companies' Promotion of Their Individual Interests is Disappointing"

Yang Hyun Suk shares that he outrightly welcomes and supports the decision made by SBS "Inkigayo" to get rid of their "Mutizen Award."

On the July 11, Yang Hyun Suk shared, "The fact that all the broadcasting companies are similar, and that they make their music program into contests in order to ultimately promote their individual interests is disappointing. This actually puzzles fans and viewers and hinders the respectable name of the music industry."

Yang Hyun Suk continued to share that the best example of this issue was revealed through Busker Busker's defeat on music programs. Busker Busker, who recently released their album, had swept the online music charts with their overwhelming popularity. On the other hand however, the group was never voted even as a candidate for the first place spot.

"It would be most beneficial for the music industry if getting first place is not dependent on how active the stars are on entertainment shows or dramas. The fact that they can make good music should be all that matters. This may very well be the path to having a diverse set of musicians grow in different genres of music," critiqued Yang Hyun Suk.

He continued, "The reality in the music world is that online market is far greater than the offline market. It has been a while since online charts have become the basis of determining what listeners like and what is trending. YG Entertainment has idol stars who are very popular also, but I still think it would be better for the majority to have the last say, not fans."

SBS "Inkigayo" has decided to get rid of the program "Take 7." "Inkigayo" has been giving their first place winning artists the "Mutizen Award"2003. Now that "Inkigayo" has gotten rid of this system, KBS2 "Music Bank" is the now the only one of three biggest broadcasting companies to use the award system.
