Team USA Basketball: DeMarcus Cousins Injured During Practice! Is He Out Of The Running For The Final Roster?

DeMarcus Cousins injured himself during Team USA practice just as the final roster is beginning to shape out. Does this mean he is out of the running?

DeMarcus Cousins injured his right knee while he was diving for a loose ball, but the Sacramento Kings star seemingly dodged a bullet because the MRI revealed there was no 'structural damage.'

Team USA declared that Cousins is day-to-day."

The official statement shared to ESPN: "USA Basketball National Team member DeMarcus Cousins suffered a knee-to-knee collision with a teammate during Thursday's USA practice in Chicago. According to USA Basketball team physician Dr. Lisa Callahan (Hospital for Special Surgery/New York Knicks), an MRI was done and revealed no structural damage. Cousins is listed as day-to-day."

Cousins himself also tweeted:

Cousins got entangled with Anthony Davis when both big men hit the floor during a practice scrimmage towards the end of practice. He had to be helped off the court, and seemingly favored his right leg.

Jerry Colangelo, director of Team USA, told reporters that the Sacramento Kings big man will miss Saturday's tue up game against Brazil.

Cousins is locked in a battle for a big man spot with Mason Plumlee, Kenneth Faried and Andre Drummond with Anthony Davis considered as a lock.

Despite the spate of injuries, most of Team USA's players remain undaunted. Kyrie Irving, one of the early invitees to the camp is unfazed by all the turmoil happening around the team and in the league. He spoke to Yahoo Sports:

"I feel like the best should represent the country and that is who is picked as well. It's a dream come true for all of us. I can't turn down this opportunity to represent this country and play against the best in the world. It's something I've been looking forward to since I was a kid. The P.G. injury was unfortunate. But this is bigger than all of us. We're representing millions of people."
