Kevin Durant Team USA Departure Shocked Coach K! Duke University Hoops Legend Admits He Was The Most Frustrated By The Sudden Change!

Kevin Durant seems to have tarnished his almost spotless reputation when he suddenly quit on Team USA. The usually mild-mannered Coach Mike Krzyzewski could not mask his frustration.

ESPN had an interview with Duke's future Hall of Fame coach who's also taking the reins of Team USA:

Was he surprised by the decision?

"Yeah, I was. No question. I was."

He elaborates: "It's one of those things; you don't replace Kevin Durant. You look different. And so we have today and [Friday] to look different before we play a really good team. That's of concern for me because we were pretty far along. We had our best camp ever in Vegas since I've coached [Team USA]. Those guys were terrific. We had more in [game plan-wise], but we had more in to play a certain way. And then Kevin deciding not to play ... it's concerning."

Of course, he has no choice but to move on:

"But hopefully we'll be good enough on Saturday, and then we use New York and Gran Canaria to get better and get better during pool play."

But not after one final heave:

"We had the whole team building what we were doing around him. In everything, because you have really one of the great scorers at the 4. So how does that change your offense? It changes your offense immensely."

Team USA now has a gaping hole at that position. Scoring wise, there are numerous players who can take over, but the team has an offensive scheme that was disrupted. Stephen Curry seconds this assessment:

"We were surprised for sure. Because he played well in Vegas and looked like the Kevin we knew, and obviously you can't fault a guy for making a personal decision. We all made personal decisions to be here and everybody's in a different place in their career, so you're not going to knock a guy for that."

There was no indication that this would happen, so it really caught the players and staff off hand. Durant was set to lead the team as early as a year ago. This was highly uncharacteristic of him.
