Skateboarding Icon Jay Adams Dies From Heart Attack During Holiday With Wife

Skateboarding legend Jay Adams passed away on Aug. 14 due to a heart attack, Hollywood Life reported.

The death of Adams, popularly know as one of the member of the 1970's Z-Boys was made known through Stacy Peralta's Instagram. Peralta is a founding member of Z-Boys.

I just received the terribly sad news that Jay Adams passed away last night due to a massive heart attack, send your love," Stacy Peralta has said in her Instagram post, confirming Adams' death.

Adams was reportedly vacationing with his wife in Mexico when he has a massive heart attack. Adams born in 1961 was considered one of the most important people in skateboarding. His life story was immortalized in the movie, "Lords of Dogtown," portrayed by Emile Hirsch.

The article noted that Adams wasn't allowed to leave the country for 20 years due to drug charges. He has been vacationing in Mexico with his wife for the past three months.

Adams, who was 53 years old, had no history of heart attack but he was a former drug addict but according to reports has been sober for months. He struggled with drug addiction for years and had to deal with several drug-related legal problems.

Adams was in prison in 2006 after sentenced to 4 years of incarceration but was released in 2008 to a halfway house where he served the rest of his sentence.

Z-Boys was a popular skate team in the 1970's and Adams was inducted in the Skateboarding Hall of Fame in 2012.

"The 70s and 80s were a different time. With punk rock there was a lot of violence and being young, drinking alcohol and making bad choices. Now I want people not to go down the same road I went down," Hollywood Take quoted Adams as saying in 2013.

 Adams is survived by his wife Alisha, daughter Venice and son, Seven.
