Khaleesi, Arya Are Baby Names For 2013

Games of Thrones have been so popular that parents are naming their babies after the television hit's characters, Daily Mail reported

According to the latest's statistics from the Office for National Statistics, babies born last year in England and Wales were named after Games of Thrones characters such as Bran, Sandor , Khaleesi and Arya.

The reports said that based on the figures there are 187 baby girls given the name Arya inspired by the feisty Stark daughter and 50 Khalessis, the title given to mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen.

 Arya is tied with the name Josephine as far as the numbers in 2013 There were seven boys called Bran tied to Brad.

 Oliver and Amelia is still the top baby names of 2013 but names like Bran, a Stark son and a crippled young boy in Games of Thrones are among the names in the list.

 There were three babies named Sandor, a famous Westeros warrior also was listed among baby names in 2013.William, Harry and George are also in the top 10 most popular names, inspired by the Royal Family. Kate is not as popular though.

Globally, Jackson and Sophia are the most popular baby names in 2013. Emma, Aiden, Jack and Emily also in the top 10.

According to Baby Center, "Television writers put a lot of energy into picking names with just the right amount of pizzazz - which is why your favorite shows offer such a wealth of appealing baby name choices."

The Daily Mail article meanwhile said that the babies are named by their parents after fantasy or fictional characters in the hope to make their children stand out.

Another Baby Center article opined that parents' personalities are actually reflected on the choice of baby names rather than the child's.

Parents have also been inspired by the movie 'Twilight,' Thor and TV shows 'Breaking Bad.'
