‘Shazam’ Movie Cast Dwayne Johnson As Both Black Adam And Shazam? Movie Is Not Tied In With Justice League--Will It Actually Happen?

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been teasing us with his meeting with Warner Bros. for more than a year now on Twitter. He triggered speculation on Green Lantern then Lobo, and then he denied both and heavily implied a "Shazam" movie.

While he said an announcement was following very soon and it was speculated to fall at Comic Con, no announcement took place.

Johnson used his Twitter account knowing that it is closely scrutinized and that speculation will arise with every tease. Perhaps Warner is actually using this on purpose to mislead?

DC has already been wary of introducing a character that has very similar powers to the Man Of Steel. It's still no different-Shazam (they refused to use his comic book name Captain Marvel for obvious reasons) is still a superman clone and his nemesis Black Adam has the same powers!

EW has theorized that Dwayne Johnson may not elect to play the villain, but he is so right for Black Adam:

"It seems more likely that Johnson would choose to play Shazam, a chipper and old-fashioned hero. Although Shazam looks a lot like Superman and shares most of his basic powers, the Shazam origin story is a neat twist: The hero is actually a young boy named Billy Batson, who transforms into an adult superhero body whenever he says the word "Shazam!" Boy-in-a-superhero's-body seems like a savvy choice for Johnson. Then again, he was great in Fast Five, and he had a lot of fun exploring the dark side of a goofball character in last year's "Pain and Gain."

Or here's an outside possibility: Given that Black Adam has the same powers as Shazam, and gets them from the same source, maybe Johnson is going to play Black Adam... and Shazam?"

But EW doubts that the Shazam movie is in Warner/DC's immediate timeline. The concentration is on Justice League heroes with Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern all having solo films.

Is Shazam just a sham?

"CONCLUSION: Johnson is probably talking to Warner Bros. about Shazam. He is probably going to play the hero. Nothing will be officially announced for at least two election cycles."

"Election cycles" means its more than 4 years! It may well be an exaggeration but suffice to say, Shazam is not in Warner/DC's immediate plans. And Dwayne Johnson won't tell us anything.
