Kevin Love Vs Blake Griffin: Who's The Best NBA Power Forward? After The Next NBA Season, It Won't Be Any Of The Two!

The best NBA Power forward has been a debate between Kevin Love and Blake Griffin for the last couple of years. But after this season, they may have to relinquish the title to and up and coming superstar!

ESPN recently analyzed this position and their new no. 1 may come as a surprise. Their rating system is based on a player's WARP which is explained by NBA Stuffer.com:

"WARP, a metric which is invented by Kevin Pelton, stands for Wins Above Replacement Player

Using replacement level shows the value of players who can play heavy minutes and avoid injury while continuing to perform above replacement level. Using wins gives a measure of value that is easy to understand and constant over time."

The main argument for Kevin Love is that he has redefined the position. Also, he is the clear winner when it comes to statistics, as ESPN stated:

"Love's 20.2 WARP ranked third in the league behind James and Kevin Durant in 2013-14. The new methodology used for ranking purposes generates WARP scores a bit lower at the top end of the scale, but even though it's RPM-based that doesn't mean Love is penalized by an inability to impact a team's bottom line. His plus-6.4 RPM was elite, and he was positive on both ends of the floor. There are a lot of reasons Minnesota never made the playoffs with Love, but he was in no way one of those reasons.'

Love is also the third most efficient player in the NBA, also behind Durant and James. However, there could be some changes with his impending trade to Cleveland.

But the guy who finished third in MVP voting is Blake Griffin. He was a beast in the regular season, but ESPN points out:

"Griffin's one weakness is his performance has generally dropped off in the playoffs. Not much, but a little. For L.A. to eventually break loose on a title run, Griffin needs to explode when he's needed most. When Chris Paul was out last season, Griffin raised his level of play, especially as a playmaker, so it's good to know he has more in reserve if it's needed."

But their no. 1 pick, like Love, is also a newbie to the playoffs-not his fault though. Anthony Davis is projected to have a breakout year even before the season starts with Team USA.

Both Kevin Love and Blake Griffin may take a backseat to teammates LeBron James and Chris Paul, but Anthony Davis is the clear leader of the Pelicans. That may be the clincher for him.
