'Game of Thrones' Author George R.R. Martin Hints At More Death To Come In Upcoming Books; HBO Exec Continues To Defend TV Adaptation Sex And Violence

"Game of Thrones" fans brace yourselves, more death is coming. George R.R. Martin announced recently at an event that as the series comes to its ultimate end, characters will continue to meet deadly fates.

It's no secret that by now, "Game of Thrones" fans have learned to detach themselves from characters as they could be killed off at any moment. "Red Wedding," "Purple Wedding," and "The Mountain and the Viper" were only the tip of the iceberg it seems. According to Variety, "at an event in London on Tuesday, Martin revealed that as his story grows closer to its ultimate ending and more characters begin to cross paths, the more likely it is that the body count will rise."

Buzzfeed reported that Martin went on to say that, "The viewpoint characters are meeting up with each other and being in the same point at the same time... Which gives me a lot more flexibility for killing people."

With this announcement it's clear that while the last two books "The Winds of Winter" and "A Dream of Spring" will certainly be intricately plotted, fans should probably forget about any dramatic reunions. It's more likely that vengence and war will continue to eliminate both hated and beloved characters alike.

Speaking of violence, HBO executive Michael Lombardo recently defended its inclusion in the TV adaptation of the popular novels. Lombardo explained that, "people responsible for programming have two responsibilities. To be responsible, not to have sex and violence that's gratuitous. That is certainly not who we are. At the same time we don't want to be a censor that inhibits the authentic organic creative process by policing how many breasts should be on a show."

"Game of Thrones" fans will ultimately have a lot to debate, speculate, and theorize with this announcement while they await the final two books of the series. In the meantime, they can look forward to "Game of Thrones" Season 5 spoilers to arise as production begins this fall.
