Matthew McConaughey Up For Grabs: Academy Award Winning Actor In Talks For Stephen King's 'The Stand' And Stephen Gaghan's 'Gold'

Matthew McConaughey is up for an Emmy tonight and it doesn't look like work is going to slow down anytime soon. Recently, the actor has been in talks for two new film roles. Stephen Gaghan, who's currently working on a pilot for AMC, has the "True Detective" star in mind for his upcoming "Gold" project, while Warner Bros. eyes him for their new film adaptation of Stephen King's "The Stand."

According to Indiewire, "McConaughey is being courted for the long developing "Gold." Once attached to Michael Mann and then to Spike Lee, Stephen Gaghan ("Syriana") is now going to helm this project, a "Treasure Of The Sierra Madre"-esque tale based on the true story of the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corporation scandal. Given how long this project has been developing, this too probably requires an A-list talent."

Luckily while Gaghan waits for word from the "Dallas Buyers Club" actor, he'll have his hands full with a new pilot for AMC entitled "White City." The Wrap reports, "the potential series is a geopolitical drama following Western diplomats and journalists living in Afghanistan. The show focuses on Jon Liston, a war junkie who has spent the better part of the last decade in Kabul with a front-row seat to the carnage. Gaghan will also serve as an EP on the show."

The big role to watch however is arguably for the newest version of Stephen King's "The Stand." A choice few might remember the TV miniseries, but Warner Bros. has been working on an all new 3 hour Rated-R epic with McConaughey in their sight for the role of Randall Flagg. Deadline states that, "this is by no means a firm situation, but it's understandable why the studio thinks McConaughey would be a compelling and persuasive force of evil in the film."

Win or lose tonight, Matthew McConaughey has nothing to worry about in regards to the continuation of his acting career. Look out for the Academy Award winning actor in the upcoming Christopher Nolan space drama, "Interstellar." The film hits theaters this fall.
