‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Is The Best Superhero Movie This Summer? The Most Successful Movie In The Mutant Franchise Literally Revived The Mutant Saga!

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" is the most successful movie in the mutant franchise in terms of box office numbers. Now, Fox can also boast of $ 700 million-grossing movies in the same breath as Marvel.

In fact, they managed to edge out "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" in terms of Worldwide Gross Sales. DOFP garnered $ 744 million while CA:TWS had $ 714 milllion. (all figures from Box office mojo). Captain America still had the edge in domestic gross, but DOFP characters, specifically Wolverine, has better international appeal.

The big question for now is how far "Guardians of the Galaxy" would go. Despite insanely strong word of mouth feedback, it is unlikely that GOTG could topple the X-Men at this point.

Even Kevin Feige had his praises on "X-Men: Days of Future Past" because it showed the perfect way to revive a franchise. His comments were posted in Comic Book movie:

"I've been thinking about Days of Future Past a lot, which I had nothing to do with, in terms of the resurrection of a franchise. I think they did a very good job with that."

He also mentioned how difficult it is to churn out a great third movie:

"On Iron Man 3, I thought a lot about X-Men 3 and Spider-Man 3 and I thought a lot about Toy Story 3, and how to avoid falling into threequelitis, which is why we went down a lot of the roads we went down on that movie."

The last statement was quite confusing because "X-Men 3: The Last Stand" and "Spider Man 3" were both critically panned sequels while "Toy Story 3" was known as the perfect way to end a franchise.

Nevertheless, Feige is a good sport and he knows that the collective success of all superhero movies would be good for his own franchises in the long term.
