Upcoming Sony Phones 2014: Is The Xperia Z2 Predecessor Better Than New Xperia Z3?

One of the upcoming Sony phones for 2014 is the newest flagship Xperia Z3. However, even before it gets announced, a lot of people are wondering what separates it from the Xperia Z2 which was launched earlier this year.

According to leaked specs and rumors, the Xperia Z3 will feature almost identical specs to the current flagship. Alleged specs include a 5.2-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in memory with microSD card slot and a quad-core CPU clocked at 2.5GHz.

Also included in the alleged spec sheet of the Xperia Z3 are a 20.7MP primary camera at the back and a 2MP front cam, exactly the same camera duo found in the Xperia Z2.

Apparently, the only difference between the two is design. Previous leaked shots of the upcoming Sony device reveals a more rounded edge compared to its usual box type designs in the past. The glass panels on both sides are still there, though that is hardly a surprise for Sony.

So is the upcoming Xperia Z3 better than the original? In some aspects, the answer is yes.

However, if we consider the total package of the Z3, it can be argued that the Xperia Z2, which is only half a year old, is a much better option for consumers who want a Sony flagship device this fall.

Aside from the fact that the Sony Xperia Z2 has almost the same specs as the Z3, it is also much cheaper due to its duration in the market. In fact, people who have bought an Xperia Z2 but chose to go for the newer smartphones may be offering the device to second-hand buyers at a much cheaper price tag.

Sony has been doing well in the smartphone market, but it is still a mystery why it decided to place specs to its Xperia Z3 which are almost identical to its previous flagship.

We'll see if those rumors pan out to be true during the IFA event in Berlin starting next week.
