San Antonio Spurs News: Here Are 4 Reasons Why Spurs Cannot Win NBA Title Twice In A Row

San Antonio Spurs news: The San Antonio Spurs was the best team in the NBA by the end of the 2013-14 season, not doubt about that.

However, things have changed ever since.

And while San Antonio continues to boast one of the deepest lineups in the league, they may not be able to win a second-consecutive NBA title. Here are four reasons why:

Stronger Teams

While the West continues to be the stronger conference between the two, the East has gotten much stronger compared to previous seasons, primarily headlined by three teams who are vying for the top spot, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls.

The West remains as competitive as ever with Dallas, Golden State and Houston trying to inch their way to the top of the ladder. The Spurs may be the best there is right now as a team, but we should remember that a roster that is both deep and talented will have the upper hand.

Injuries

If we look back at the Spurs' previous championships, one of the major reasons why they were not able to get a consecutive title is injuries. Even back in the early 2000s, Duncan has already been sidelined by a few injuries which left a gaping hole on the Spurs' defense and offense. And as players like him and Ginobili, Parker and Diaw are all approaching the twilight of their respective careers, injuries will surely become a problem.

Over-confidence

Winning the NBA title is something, and it gives this team something to boast about. However, a team's over-confidence could be an obstacle that can hinder them from getting that sixth title. While all the veterans can handle that, the younger players like Kawhi Leonard, Patty Mills and Danny Green may find themselves bathing too much in the spotlight, and forgetting how they ended up where they are in the first place.

Fatigue

San Antonio has been qualifying for the Playoffs for almost two decades straight already, and the team has certainly showcased how playing time should be evenly distributed to players to keep everyone fresh come post-season time. Unfortunately, the Spurs can only do so much when it comes to benching players, and seeing the team's big three play limited minutes will certainly affect their prowess in both offense and defense.

San Antonio may be the best in the league right now, but if they don't pay attention to these factors, they might just repeat history and fail to win a consecutive NBA title.
