Bruce Springsteen Announces Children's Book; Rock Icon Takes Inspiration From His 2009 Song 'Outlaw Pete'

A Bruce Springsteen's children's book will be out soon. And it's not just any other book as the rock icon delves into the world of children's literature, taking inspiration from "Outlaw Pete," a song off his 2009 album "Working on a Dream."

Published by Simon and Schuster, Bruce Springsteen's children's book, which was heavily inspired by his song about a bank robbing baby, will be out in the market on November 4.

The Bruce Springsteen chidre's book was written with and illustrated by Frank Caruso, who talked fondly of the book, saying: "When Bruce wrote 'Outlaw Pete' he didn't just write a great song, he created a great character. The first time I heard the song this book played out in my head."

According to Rolling Stone magazine, "Outlaw Pete" was inspired by a 1950s children's book Springsteen's mother read to him when he was a child. The story is reportedly about a cowboy who "cut his trail of tears across the countryside."

"'Outlaw Pete' is essentially the story of a man trying to outlive and outrun his sins," explained Springsteen.

"Like Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Dorothy Gale and for me, even Popeye, 'Outlaw Pete' cuts deep into the folklore of our country and weaves its way into the fabric of great American literary characters," added Caruso.

While the Bruce Springsteen children's book primarily appears to cater to a young audience, its publisher claimed that it is "a picture book for adults" which consequently can be enjoyed by children as well.

"It's a book for anybody who loves a good Western. It's for readers of all ages," said Jonathan Karp, Simon and Schuster's president and publisher.

Bruce Springsteen joined the ranks of musical superstars who took a hand at writing for children. Some legendary musicians who have previously published children's books are Madonna, John Lennon, Jimmy Buffett, Keith Richards and Carly Simon.
