Fantastic Fest Updates: Lineup Will Include Keanu Reeves' 'John Wick', Jake Gyllenhaal In 'Nightcrawler' And U.S. Premiere Of Studio Ghibli's 'The Tale of the Princess Kaguya'

Looks like genre film fans will also get some excitement amongst all the art film festival buzz. Fantastic Fest has announced their lineup and it's going to include something for everyone. The genre heavy lineup will include the return of Keanu Reeves in "John Wick," Jake Gyllenhaal's crime action drama "Nightcrawler," and Studio Ghibli's U.S. premiere of "The Tale of Princess Kaguya."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Lionsgate's "John Wick" stars Reeves as a former hitman who comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. Directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski, the film also stars Willem Dafoe and Adrianne Palicki." "The Matrix" actor participated in the 2013 festival's Fantastic debate with festival co-founder Tim League and then boxed one round with him. Looks like the results of the boxing match created a fondness for Keanu Reeves as opposed to what usually happens after a fist fight.

Another action flick (saturated by crime and drama as well) that will run at Fantastic Fest is "Nightcrawler," the latest from Jake Gyllenhaal. "‘Nightcrawler', written and directed by Dan Gilroy, will serve as the fest's closing night film. It stars Gyllenhaal as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism," says The Hollywood Reporter. The trailer for the film is out and in the comments section, fans are already calling the film Oscar bait for the "Prisoners" star.

For Japanese animation fans, Studio Ghibli will premiere "The Tale of Princess Kaguya" on U.S. soil at this year's fantastic fest. Studio Ghibli has been getting a lot of attention lately with the company's future uncertain after Hayao Miyazaki's retirement. Miyazaki will be honored this year with a Governor's Award Oscar for his lifetime achievement. Meanwhile, the studio that helped him along the way will continue with the release of "The Tale of Princess Kaguya" making several film festival stops, including the Toronto International Film Festival.

Anime News Network describes the film: "'The Tale of the Princess Kaguya' is based on the famous Japanese folktale Taketori Monogatari (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter), which centers on a princess named Kaguya who was discovered as a baby inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant.

Fantastic Fest is shaping up to be another exciting preview of this year's best genre films.
