Playstation TV Release Date, Price, Bundle Package, And Specs: Micro Console Allows You To Stream Games And Movies On Separate TV [VIDEO]

Sony has announced that the Playstation TV has an October 14 release date in the US and a UK release date of November 14.

Playstation TV is essentially a streaming console, that also allows access to Playstation games. They will cost $99 and also will include three games.

The console will allow users access to Sony's games library via Remote Play, and it will also offer access to third-party applications like Netflix. It will also offer access to Sony's game-streaming service, PlayStation Now, which will be coming to Europe and the UK in 2015.

Sony made the announcement during the PlayStation press conference at the Gamescom trade fair

"This TV could be a proper streaming device, one that could compete well with the other ones that are out there - the Apple, Roku, even things like Amazon FireTV," Brian Blau, research director of consumer technology at Gartner, told the BBC.

"It's not the most robust streaming service and it's not the most robust gaming device but it's enough of both for the price," he added.

The device is not target at serious gamers, but to those who are looking for a second-screen or the ability to play older PlayStation games.

"Sony is trying to introduce a broader audience to PlayStation, so with PlayStation TV, they can address a lower income or more casual market and provide access to a huge library of games," said Michael Pachter, research analyst at Wedbush Securities.

With the feature called "Remote Play," a user can stream PlayStation 4 games coming from a PS4 console in his home into a separate TV where the PlayStation TV is connected.

The PlayStation TV has the dimension of 65.0 x 105.0 x 13.6mm and weighs approximately 110g. It features ARM Cortex A9 core, IMG SGX543MP4 as the GPU, 1GB internal memory, AV output (720p, 1080i, 480p), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LPCM 2ch sound output, and about 2.8W of maximum rated power consumption.

It will also be available as a bundle which will include a DualShock 3, a memory card of 8GB, a USB cable, and an original copy of the new "Lego The Movie Videogame" on PS Vita. The bundle pack will retail at $140.
