Windows Phone 8.1 Release Date: New GDR2 Update Will Change The Way You Look At The Settings App

The Windows Phone 8.1 release date has just rolled out to supported devices in the last two months, and the GDR1 update has been released as well last month.

But it appears that Microsoft is looking to roll out another update soon.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the GDR2 update is already under development, and would bring a number of changes.

First up is the settings menu, which would reportedly get an alphabetically arranged list of options. Currently, Windows Phone 8.1-powered devices have their settings list arranged from the most 'prioritized' to the least, but that may be causing confusion to WP users.

Once the GDR2 update goes live, users will be able to browse through the settings list easily because it comes alphabetically.

Another rumored change is the toggle for mobile data within the Action Center which is the notification area for devices running on Windows Phone 8.1.

In the report, there were also rumors that the GDR2 update will include support for Qualcomm's Snapdragon 805 chipset as well as 2K or Quad HD (2560 x 1440) resolution displays.

Currently, the highest resolution of any WP 8.1-powered device is Full HD or 1920 x 1080.

The update will reportedly bring Cortana to more markets as well, though it would still be in the Alpha phase of its development.

In the report, the GDR2 update may be completed on or before October where it is expected to roll out to all smartphones which run on Windows Phone 8.1

Last month, the GDR1 update has started to roll out on some devices, which includes a number of changes. The update brings Cortana to some more markets, and devices which update to the version will be able to support flip cover cases.

What do you think about this rumored update? Is this worth waiting for?
