Cheap Android Phones: Xiaomi Continues To Sell Thousands Of Smartphones In India, 40K Redmi 1S Handsets Sold Out In Just 4.2 Seconds!

We all know that Xiaomi sells cheap Android phones in emerging markets like in its home country China, and now in India. But we never expected it to do this well.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the Chinese phone maker has done it again and managed to sell out its stock of Xiaomi phones for the Asian sub-continent.

This time it's the Xiaomi Redmi 1s smartphone which made the rounds on India's largest online retailer Flipkart. In the report, Xiaomi was able to sell out 40,000 units in just 4.2 seconds.

That's certainly impressive considering that its latest attempt at the Indian market reportedly sold 30,000 Mi3 units in less than 30 minutes.

In the report, almost 250,000 signed-up for the Redmi 1s, which is a requirement if you want to buy the handset. And so that means more than 200,000 people were left empty-handed as stocks were not enough. The Redmi 1s was reportedly sold for only INR 5,999 or about $98, which is even cheaper than what it costs in China.

So what does this less than $100 phone have to offer? The Redmi 1s was just announced in May and sports a 4.7-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution, 1GB of RAM, a Snapdragon chipset, quad-core CPU clocked at 1.6GHz, annd 8GB of internal memory.

Also on board is an 8 megapixel camera at the back and a 1.2MP front cam, a microSD card slot, a 2,000mAh battery, but an outdated Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box.

In spite the insufficient stocks, there is still plenty to be happy about if you're Xiaomi. The demand for its smartphones are now becoming higher than its current supply, and that means they will have to start expanding soon.

Expansion will mean more stable and consistent arrival of supplies, and as a result would be an easier way to penetrate other markets in the region.
