‘Childhood’s End’ TV Series Comes To Life! Syfy Orders Six Hour Miniseries, Benedict Cumberbatch To Star?

Arthur C. Clarke fans will finally see "Childhood's End" come to life as Syfy has officially ordered a miniseries adaptation of the popular sci-fi novel. With the announcement of key crew members Nick Hurran, Neville Kidd, and Yan Miles, who all worked on "Sherlock: His Last Vow," is there a possibility that they will grab Benedict Cumberbatch to star?

Deadline reported earlier today that, "Syfy has greenlighted Childhood's End, a six-hour miniseries based on Arthur C. Clarke's classic to premiere in 2015." For those who may have not read the novel, "‘Childhood's End' follows the peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious ‘Overlords,' whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia under indirect alien rule, at the cost of human identity and culture." Looks like Syfy is adding in its own take on the recent popular themes of utopia and dystopia.

"The powerful themes of ‘Childhood's End,' from the fearsome price of peace and prosperity, to the very question of what constitutes a human being, remain fascinating and timeless. This will be the most ambitious project for Syfy in many years," says Syfy president Dave Howe, as reported by Variety. If the popularity of "Game of Thrones" has taught the TV networks anything, it's that people enjoy the idea of 'paying their debts'.

Key crew for the project will include Nick Hurran, who is set to direct, Neville Kid, who will be the director of photography, and Yan Miles who will edit. The fact that all of these guys worked on "Sherlock: His Last Vow" seems to suggest that the creators are interested in garnering the same kind of Emmy results they recently received for their work on that series. Does the mean we can expect them to contact Benedict Cumberbatch to come along with them?

No information has been released in terms of casting, but the possibility seems to be there. Cumberbatch, who has yet to squash rumors that he's working on "Batman Vs. Superman," will otherwise have some time on his hands as his next filming project, "Jungle Book: Origins" is still in pre-production. Moreover, all of his projects due out in 2016 are all in post-production. Here's hoping the "Sherlock" crew will reunite for this newly greenlit project.

The "Childhood's End" TV miniseries is set to debut sometime in 2015 on Syfy.
