Upcoming Samsung Phones 2014: New Galaxy Note Edge Phablet Packs Two-Sided Display, Boasts Similar Specs To Note 4

Remember the three-sided display Samsung showcased at a CES event a couple of years ago? The technology has finally been used for one of the upcoming Samsung phones for 2014, the new high-end Galaxy Note Edge phablet.

However, its display does not get the entire three-sided display, but only two this time. Still, it is a unique feature that would surely turn the heads of consumers.

In the report by GSM Arena, the device was showcased following the announcement of the Galaxy Note 4 by Samsung. The Galaxy Note Edge packs similar specs to the flagship phablet, but it gets an extra display space due to the curved display on the phone's right edge.

That means its QHD screen will pack a 2560 x 1600 resolution, instead of only 2560 x 1440 for the standard sized display, such as those placed on the LG G3 and Note 4.

In the report, the 'extra' screen portion will be the feature that would separate it from other Samsung devices, particularly the Note 4 which has a similar overall apperance to the Note Edge.

Some interactions and gestures are supported by this curved portion, just like the Galaxy Round. When the phone is locked, the curved side is able to display some Quick Glance details such as time, place and weather.

In the report, the curved part of the screen can also become a toolbar of sorts for recently-used applications, features, and settings. The curved screen can even be used for multi-tasking where you can see currently running applications and switch through them simultaneously without having to fill the actual display (the flat screen).

Indeed, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge offers something unique and in theory, very useful especially when it comes to multi-tasking. We'll just find out how those features translate in the real world.
