George Clooney Set To Direct A Phone Hacking Scandal Movie In The Wake Of 'Fappening'; 'Hack Attack' To Be Shot Next Year

A George Clooney movie about phone-hacking has been slated and the film titled "Hack Attack" will be filmed next year, in the aftermath of the "Fappening," when nude photos of celebrities were released online.

While his more popular works had been for acting, the George Clooney movie will have him sit on the director's chair.

To be distributed by Sony Pictures, George Clooney's "Hack Attack" will reportedly be an adaptation of British journalist Nick Davies' book of the same title, which recounts the phone hacking scandal involving Rupert Murcdoch's news outfit.

In an interview about the film, Clooney discussed the reasons why they chose the phone hacking incident for the plot. "This has all the elements - lying, corruption, blackmail - at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London," said Clooney. "And the fact that it's true is the best part. Nick is a brave and stubborn reporter and we consider it an honor to put his book to film."

Apart from directing the film, Clooney is also producing it with Grant Heslov through their production outfit Smokehouse.

In a statement, Michael De Luca, an executive at Sony Pictures mentioned how being a son of a journalist affects Clooney's take on the film. "As the son of a journalist, George has a sharp interest in the role journalism plays in all of our lives - whether that's for good, as in 'Good Night, and Good Luck,' or for bad," said De Luca. "With 'Hack Attack,' George will explore the dark side of that world, a business where all of the rules of journalism are broken in the race for an easy and ever-larger payday."

There have been no reports yet as to who will be involved in the cast for George Clooney's "Hack Attack.

A George Clooney movie about journalism with the actor performing directorial duties, however, is not a first time as Clooeny was nominated for an Oscar for directing "Good Night, and Good Luck" in 2005. The said film revolved around the story of CBS anchor Edward R. Murrow.
