Carmelo Anthony News: It Was Not All About The Money, Melo's Businesses In New York Also A Factor In Staying With Knicks?

This off-season is probably one of the most entertaining in recent memory, primarily because it features not one but two superstars trying to look for new homes. Back then, all of  the Carmelo Anthony news focused on his possible landing destinations which would place him on a better team with higher chances of winning a championship.

That could have been the case if he chose the Los Angeles Lakers, the Houston Rockets or the Chicago Bulls. But instead, he chose to come home to New York.

However, it is not just about the $124 million contract that will span five years. According to a report by the New York Post, Anthony may have even grander plans for himself, and it is not in any way related to winning an NBA championship.

In the report, Anthony and his business partner Stuart Goldfarb have established the Melo7 Tech Partners, a startup company that will focus on funding internet-based projects, digital products and anything related to new technology.

Some of the businesses Melo has invested in include a 'smart kitchen' maker, an educational app for children, and another app that manages ticket sales.

In a report by Chris Herring of the Wall Street Journal, Melo had a number of business interests in New York which he did not want to leave once he goes for another team to chase a title.

In addition to his businesses, Anthony also considered the presence of Phil Jackson on the Knicks management, certainly a presence that promises success in luring more star or role players to help him.

Lastly, the 30-year-old forward considered his family who lives in New York, including his son who goes to school there. In a previous interview, Melo said that he does not want his son to experience big adjustments which are brought by changing sceneries.

While Melo has definitely chosen where his heart is, it will take more than heart to advance deep into the playoffs and probably win a championship.
