Upcoming Motorola Phones 2014: New Moto X Flagship Now Official, Boasts Front Sensors For Gesture Controls, 5.2" Display, Snapdragon 801 Chip, 'Pure' Android Experience

After months of waiting, we finally see the best of the upcoming Motorola phones for 2014 - the newest flagship, the Moto X.

Contrary to previous rumors, the device was not named Moto X+1, but simply the new generation Moto X.

The new Android smartphone may have adapted its previous name, but as far as design and specs are concerned, the new Moto X is a different beast.

Running the show is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset and a quad-core CPU clocked at 2.5GHz. These specs will definitely bring it at par with other Android flagships in the market today.

Also on board is a 5.2-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 2GB of RAM and a 16GB or 32GB of built-in memory. Unfortunately, consumers will not be able to expand the storage because Motorola did not include a microSD card slot.

There is a 13MP primary camera at the back that comes with a ring of that includes the phone's dual LED flash, while a 2MP front cam will be perfect for selfies and video calls.

One of the unique features of the new Moto X is the gesture control that is possible through the four front sensors in the device. While we may see some similarities in its functions and those of the Amazon Fire Phone, we cannot be completely sure for now.

For Android purists, you will certainly be thrilled to know that Motorola has decided to include a stock and 'clean' Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat out of the box, with only a few Motorola-specific applications.

In the report, the company also promised that its flagship would get the Android L update when it becomes available. The Android-powered handset will come in several back cover options, and will hit local carriers in the US for $99.99 on a two-year contract or $499.99 off contract.
