Bill Murray Day! Toronto International Film Festival Kicks Off With Celebration Of ‘Ghostbusters’ Actor, Internet Remembers Iconic Career Moments

When Toronto International Film Festival announced Bill Murray Day, it didn't catch on as quickly as it has now, as today it is officially a day to celebrate the comedic and sometimes dramatic genius behind films such as "Groundhog Day," "Ghostbusters," and his latest festival entry, "St. Vincent."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Among the many events planned to celebrate Murray on Friday are screenings at Toronto's TIFF Bell Lightbox of his classic comedies Stripes, Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters, as well as the world premiere of his latest film, St. Vincent, and, in the evening, a Bill Murray costume contest." Social media has also supplied a meme to go along with the celebration of the beloved actor.

Murray, who reportedly does not have an agent, publicist, or manager, has always been a little eccentric. But that is perhaps how fans prefer him. Biography compiled a list of their favorite on screen moments, and it includes the unforgettable hilarity that ensued when he played a masochist patient for a sadist dentist, played by the equally talented Steve Martin, in "Little Shop of Horrors."

As far as his latest film "St. Vincent," recently, director Ted Melfi explains how the actor's lack of contact info was the least of problems in securing the actor for his film. The Los Angeles Times has compiled a list of the twelve steps that Melfi had to take to get the elusive and brilliant Murray to star in the film, including calling a mysterious 1-800 automated number to leave messages.

Although "St. Vincent" may not be getting the greatest reactions from critics, Bill Murray continues to be one of those iconic actors that can make any role worthwhile. "He's a true one-of-a-kind. Toronto's celebration dedicated to the man is well-deserved, and we are immensely excited that he'll be there in the flesh to celebrate with us and his huge legion of fans," says Harvey Weinstein in coverage of the event by The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans of the hysterical yet masterful Murray can catch "St. Vincent" in theaters on October 24th. Happy Bill Murray Day!
