‘True Detective’ Season 2 Rumors: Justin Lin Of 'Fast And Furious' To Direct? Leaked Plot Similar To 'Chinatown' Film!

The hotly anticipated second season of "True Detective" is still a long way off (scheduled for Summer 2015) but the final casting details and directorial duties are already making waves.

For the second season, series creator Nic Pizzolatto may utilize different directors and just like their casting effort last season, big Hollywood names are involved. Justin Lin, director of "Fast and Furious 6" is reportedly in talks to helm the first two episodes. From THR:

"Justin Lin, who rejuvenated the creaky Fast & Furious series into a high-octane premium franchise, is in talks to direct two episodes of HBO's critically acclaimed anthology series.

The talks are characterized by insiders as being in the early stages with many details, including budgets and vision, still needing to be worked out."

Meanwhile, the rumored plot leaks have drawn comparisons to 1974's classic Roman Polanski film, "Chinatown" which starred Jack Nicholson. Some of the key elements were discussed in Film Divider:

"The new mystery is to be kickstarted by the murder of Ray Caspar, City Manager of a fictional Californian city.  From what I can gather, the new, partly invented map that Pizzolatto is drawing will be essential to his new story.  As he teased, some months ago, part of the mystery will involve California's transportation systems. This plot will involve a corrupt scheme to link North and South California with a high speed train, all in pursuit of profitable land ownership and lucrative federal grants."

The organized corruption and the systematic whitewashing embedded deeply in the culture of an isolated locale will definitely ring a bell for those who have seen "Chinatown" but there are some more interesting details:

"I can tell you now that these would make up two corners of the series' central triangle of investigators, two men and a woman from different Californian cities and their own distinct branches of the State's law enforcement bodies, coming together to uncover a whole mess of corruption."

It would be interesting to see how all these elements will be pieced together. Considering how last season's series turned out, it's hard to bet against "True Detective."
